Smoothies
So many variations! But a base that has been working for us:
- 1/2 a container (8 oz) silken tofu
- a handful of fresh or frozen spinach
- 2-3 spoonfuls of plan yogurt
- unsweetened vanilla or plain almond milk, or coconut milk, or dairy milk, or a combo
Blend and then for creaminess, add:
- frozen banana, and/or
- frozen avocado
Blend. At this point it looks a bit like ranch dressing and is ready for flavoring/texture.
Things we use, not necessarily all together:
- frozen fruit
- nut butter
- cocoa powder
- ground flax seed
- oatmeal
- chia seeds
- spices (cinnamon, cardamom)
We rarely need a sweetener, but if we do, we might add a bit of maple syrup. We add more milk or water as needed.
Combination ideas: mango/coconut/cardamom, cherry/cocoa/nut butter, berry/almond milk
